Architects for Building Leaders Most often we think of organizational leadership as a simple process of directing others. However once we are faced with the task of leading we realize that being an effective leader is a challenging and complex process. Not only do we need to direct and lead others, but also model and inspire them with our own behavior and awareness. It requires that we be skilled and sensitive to feedback and communication, both to those above us as well as those below us. Leadership requires visions and related goals as well as the flexibility to change these goals depending on the needs of a given moment. It asks of us to self reflect and bring awareness and skill in all our interactions and decisions. Leadership provides us with the opportunity for tremendous learning, personal development and growth, while simultaneously recognizing that many of our decisions will impact others directly. Often we find ourselves in leadership positions with little training of how to lead effectively. Whatever the form of our leadership, the skills required to lead are considerable. In our Leadership Development Series, we will use proven approaches and methods to assist us in the development of effective leadership. Through theoretical presentations and experiential exercises we will cover topics such as these: - Finding our vision and goals as leaders
- Learning to use our rank and power skillfully
- Working with issues of conflict and diversity
- Learning on the job, communication and feedback skill development
- Becoming a people development person as well as task related
- Cultivating wisdom in leadership
